For close to 40 years the Almaguin Fish Improvement Association (AFIA) has provided volunteer services to the Almaguin area through our hatchery and learning center initiatives. During that time, we have worked closely with the municipality of Magnetawan, the surrounding areas and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. We have successfully released millions of walleye fry into the waterways around Magnetawan between Lake’s Cecebe and Ahmic. This effort was undertaken to improve local walleye stocks and to ensure a healthy and balanced ecosystem, all while providing an economic boost to the community. More impressively, this has be accomplished without a single tax dollar being spent to provide this service. All funds have come from generous local donations.
With a new hatchery season upon us, we look to turn a new leaf as an organization. We wanted a name that more closely represented everything our volunteers do within our community. So with that, we announce our new name: the Almaguin Community Hatchery Program (ACHP)
With the announcement of our new name, we are also pleased to unveil our new website and social media presence.
