The AFIA is forging ahead leaps and bounds planning for this year’s spawn of pickerel and a successful hatchery. They have had two meetings with Ministry officials so far and others are planned. Their expectations are that the spawn will occur sometime when the water temperature reaches 9 degrees Celsius. Their nets will be in the water at that time in the vicinity of the parkette by the LCBO store in Magnetawan – expected to be the latter part of April or early May. This year’s crop of fry will be planted in Ahmic Lake.
The ministry is asking the AFIA to do a very interesting project for them this year which is new and may never have been done on our lake. They are supplying the AFIA with sonar and GPS equipment to map the bottom of the lake. This will eliminate all speculation and guesswork as to depths, shoals etc. on the lake. More to follow on this.
